Lindstrom 2017 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

As with the preceding year, Spring of 2017 brought Sonoma County abundant rainfall, and the Russian River Valley vineyards enjoyed an energetic bud break with plenty of moisture and nutrients available for healthy growth. The summer months saw fairly typical weather patterns, small bursts of warm weather followed by cooling marine-layer fog, As harvest neared, we saw remarkably even ripening throughout the vineyards. The Pinot Noir grapes for this wine were harvested on September 2, 2017, fermented in open-top tanks, aged in French oak barrels (50% new) for 15 months, and bottled without fining or filtration in December 2018.

The coastal air, always featuring a hint of salinity, lends a sense of bright, fresh intensity to the aromas and flavors of this complex wine. Cherry, cola, fresh earth, bright fresh cranberry notes, and a hint of baking spice all unfold in the aromas. On the palate, the wine shows a broad, silky entry with fresh cherry juice flavors, a hint of celery leaf, and a slight mineral/saline note. As the flavors fade, a bright note of fresh cranberry offers a refreshing finish.
